RL-KLT small-load container

KLT stands for “Kleinladungsträger”, i.e. a small load carrier. It is a standardised series of plastic containers that originated in the German automotive industry and is defined by the VDA 4500 standard: modular sizes, rims for stacking, label holders and handles. It is used for manual and automated handling and for exchanging material between supplier and manufacturer.

They have the same VDA modular sizes, but the base is different. The R-KLT has a reinforced composite base: it is the choice for heavy components. The RL-KLT has a smooth base and guides on the walls: it runs better on gravity roller tracks and in automated warehouses and is quieter on the lines. Each series has its own lid.

There are five sizes: 300×200×147, 400×300×147, 400×300×280, 600×400×147 and 600×400×280 mm. The sizes are modular: four 300×200 or two 400×300 take up the footprint of one 600×400, and four 600×400 cover a 1200×800 pallet. This way you combine different sizes on the same dolly or pallet with no wasted space.

On the 600×400 dolly: the 600×400 KLT, or two 400×300 or four 300×200, travels on castors straight away. The Dolly Type I has 2 swivel and 2 fixed castors, the Type II 4 swivel; the Type VII B and VII C have a coupling for forming a dolly train on the milk run. All carry 250 kg. To keep the containers in place while towing there is the corner retaining kit.

Yes. Each container has two 210×80 mm label holders, the kanban card size. The empty KLT returns to the supermarket or supplier with its card: that is the reorder signal.

They are made of polypropylene, resistant to most oils, acids and alkaline solutions, and can be used from −20 to +100 °C. The smooth inner walls are quick to clean and the material is 100% recyclable.

Yes, KLTs are also designed for automated handling. The R-KLT has slots for automated gripping; the RL-KLT, with a smooth base and guides on the walls, is the best suited to automated warehouses and gravity roller tracks. For FIFO shelving lanes tell us the roller pitch and slope: we check the right size with you.

With the Lean Adaptor Pallet: you load up to 4 600×400 dollies with their KLTs and move the lot with a forklift, onto the lorry too. On arrival the containers are already on castors and go straight to the line. To close the load there are pallet lids, also with retractable straps.

It depends on consumption, replenishment frequency and the stock you want to keep at the workstation. We calculate it with you starting from bills of materials and cycle times: we tell you the sizes, quantities and dollies you need.

Yes: the top and bottom rims are designed for stacking the containers even when they are closed with the RL-KLT lid. The lid is chosen by footprint (300×200, 400×300, 600×400) and fits both heights.

The smooth base rests evenly on the rollers and the guides on the walls keep it on track: the container runs smoothly and is quieter on handling lines. We help you check the size against the slopes and roller pitch of your lanes.
