Aluminium strut profile 30x90
The 30x90 has three slots on each long side and one on each short side. Mounted upright it is about three times stiffer than a 30x60: use it for cross members of benches and frames, bases and uprights loaded in one direction, always with slot C8 accessories. You receive it as a full bar or cut to length.
Why choose it
Stiff when upright
Ix = 60.7 cm⁴ with the 90 mm side vertical, versus 19.6 cm⁴ for the 30x60.
Eight slots
Three slots per long side at 30 mm pitch and one per short side.
C8 accessories
30 series nuts, screws, sliding blocks and 30x30 cover caps.
Choose it if…
- You need a stiff cross member in the slot C8 series.
- The load acts mainly in one direction.
- You want three slots on the long side.
Choose another solution if…
- The span is long or the load is high: Aluminium strut profile 30x120 →
- A lighter profile is enough: Aluminium strut profile 30x60 →

With three 30x30 cover caps side by side, signal grey or ESD black. If a screw passes through the end, use the 30x30 cover cap with hole.
When the cross member is long or loaded: the 30x90 weighs 2.1 kg/m versus 1.5 kg/m, but mounted upright it has Ix = 60.7 cm⁴ versus 19.6 cm⁴. For even longer spans, move up to the 30x120.
The 30x90 weighs 2.1 kg/m, has eight slots and Ix = 60.7 cm⁴. The 30x120 weighs 2.7 kg/m, has ten slots and Ix = 136.3 cm⁴: more than double the stiffness for little extra weight. Choose the 30x120 for longer spans or higher loads.
It is the width of the profile slot and determines which accessories you use. Slot C6 (6 mm) is for 20 series profiles, C8 (8 mm) for the 30 series, C10 (10 mm) for profiles from the 40 series upwards. Nuts, screws, brackets and cover caps are chosen by slot: each accessory's product page shows the right one.
Yes. You can order the full bar or the piece cut to the length you need: we do the cutting ourselves, in our workshop. Each profile's product page shows the maximum bar length and the minimum cut length.
Look at the moments of inertia Ix and Iy: the higher they are, the less the profile deflects under load. For the same section, “L” profiles are lightened and deflect a little more. For long spans or high loads move to a larger section or a tall profile (e.g. 45x90 instead of 45x45). If you send us drawing and loads, we will check the choice.
The T-nut is inserted from the front into the slot, even in an assembled structure, and positions itself when you tighten the screw: it is the standard choice for fixing accessories. The sliding block withstands higher forces, but normally has to be inserted from the profile end before closing the frame; spring versions stay where you put them.
The simplest way is the bracket, which joins two profiles at 90° with screws and nuts in the slot, without machining. For end, T, 45° or three-way connections there are dedicated connectors, some of which require profile machining as stated on their product page.
Yes, for several accessories (for example cover caps, hinges and nuts) there are conductive ESD versions, indicated in the name or variant. Tell us which EPA area you work in and we will confirm the components to use.
On each product page you will find the MGE catalogue pages to download as PDF, with dimensioned drawings and technical data; the Specifications tab shows the data for the variant you have chosen.
