Aluminium strut profile 40x80x80L - L-shaped profile with slot 10
The 40x80x80L has an L-shaped section: two 40 mm wide arms forming an 80 x 80 mm corner, with eight C10 slots. It is equally stiff in both directions (Ix = Iy = 96.6 cm⁴): you use it as a corner upright for frames, enclosures and workbenches, where profiles arrive from two directions, instead of two profiles side by side. You receive it as a full bar or cut to length and connect it with 40 series accessories.
Why choose it
Stiff in two directions
Ix = Iy = 96.6 cm⁴: over five times the 40x80L mounted flat (17.3 cm⁴).
Eight C10 slots
10 mm slots around the perimeter of the L for panels, brackets and profiles arriving from two sides.
Torsionally stiff
It 19.60 cm⁴, versus 8.02 cm⁴ for the 40x80L.
Bar or cut to length
Full bar of 6070 mm or cut to length in our workshop, from 50 mm upwards.
Choose it if…
- You need a corner upright that is stiff in both directions.
- You want 10 mm slots on both sides of the corner.
- You prefer a single profile instead of two side by side.
- You work with 40 series profiles and accessories.
Choose another solution if…
- A rectangular 40 series profile is enough for you: Aluminium strut profile 40x80L →
- You need a larger L, 120x120: Aluminium strut profile 40x120x120L →
- You need a piece already 1400 mm long: Aluminium strut profile 40x80x80 L L=1400 mm →

To combine with the 40x80x80L
On the 40x80x80L you fit 40 series accessories with slot C10.

Cutting to length
We cut the profiles in our workshop to the lengths in your parts list.
Check of codes and quantities
We start from your parts list or a sketch: we check profiles, brackets, nuts and cover caps for every slot and every joint.
Ready-to-assemble kits
You receive cut profiles and accessories grouped by structure, with the component list.
Spare parts
When you modify or extend the structure we supply the same original components.
Send us your parts list or a photo of the structure: we will reply with codes, quantities and cutting lengths.

As a corner upright for frames, enclosures, workbenches and bases: in a single profile you get the stiffness of an 80x80 section in both directions and 10 mm slots on both sides. Instead of two profiles side by side in the corner you have a single piece to cut and fit.
The 40x80L has Ix 63.4 cm⁴ upright but only 17.3 cm⁴ flat. The 40x80x80L has 96.6 cm⁴ in both directions, so you do not have to choose a mounting orientation. It weighs 4.2 kg/m versus 2.7.
The 40x80x80L weighs 4.2 kg/m with Ix = Iy 96.6 cm⁴; the 40x120x120L weighs 6.7 kg/m and reaches 318.0 cm⁴, more than three times as much. Choose the larger one for heavy frames and long spans.
As a rough calculation, with 1000 N at the centre of a simply supported 2000 mm beam, the deflection is about 2.5 mm in both directions, excluding self-weight. To check your structure, send us the layout and loads.
The dedicated 40x80x80 cover cap, which follows the L section: in signal grey PP or black ESD.
It is the same profile in a piece already 1400 mm long. This product page is for the 6070 mm full bar, which you can also have cut to the lengths in your parts list.
Yes: the 40x80x80L has the same L shape with eight 10 mm slots, for 40 series structures.
The 40 series brackets for slot C10, in size 40x40 or 40x80 depending on the side the profile arrives on, fixed with T-nuts or C10 sliding blocks.
It is the width of the profile slot and determines which accessories you use. Slot C6 (6 mm) is for 20 series profiles, C8 (8 mm) for the 30 series, C10 (10 mm) for profiles from the 40 series upwards. Nuts, screws, brackets and cover caps are chosen by slot: each accessory's product page shows the right one.
Yes. You can order the full bar or the piece cut to the length you need: we do the cutting ourselves, in our workshop. Each profile's product page shows the maximum bar length and the minimum cut length.
Look at the moments of inertia Ix and Iy: the higher they are, the less the profile deflects under load. For the same section, “L” profiles are lightened and deflect a little more. For long spans or high loads move to a larger section or a tall profile (e.g. 45x90 instead of 45x45). If you send us drawing and loads, we will check the choice.
The T-nut is inserted from the front into the slot, even in an assembled structure, and positions itself when you tighten the screw: it is the standard choice for fixing accessories. The sliding block withstands higher forces, but normally has to be inserted from the profile end before closing the frame; spring versions stay where you put them.
The simplest way is the bracket, which joins two profiles at 90° with screws and nuts in the slot, without machining. For end, T, 45° or three-way connections there are dedicated connectors, some of which require profile machining as stated on their product page.
Yes, for several accessories (for example cover caps, hinges and nuts) there are conductive ESD versions, indicated in the name or variant. Tell us which EPA area you work in and we will confirm the components to use.
On each product page you will find the MGE catalogue pages to download as PDF, with dimensioned drawings and technical data; the Specifications tab shows the data for the variant you have chosen.
Yes. Send us the parts list or a sketch with dimensions: we give you codes, quantities and cut lengths and prepare the kit with profiles already cut and the accessories.
