Ix = 136.3 cm⁴ mounted upright, 2.7 kg/m, 6070 mm bar or cut to length.
AL Modular System · C8 profiles
Aluminium strut profile 30x120 - tall profile with 8 mm slot
The 30x120 is the tallest profile in the slot C8 series: four slots on each long side and one on each short side. Mounted with the 120 mm side vertical it has a moment of inertia of 136.3 cm⁴, much more than a 30x60: use it for long cross members, gantries, machine bases and load-carrying frames without changing your accessory range. You receive it as a full bar or cut to length in our workshop.
Why choose it
Stiff when upright
Ix = 136.3 cm⁴ and Wx = 22.7 cm³ with the 120 mm side vertical: small deflections even on long spans.
Ten slots
Four slots per long side at 30 mm pitch and one per short side: room for brackets, rails and panels.
30 series accessories
Nuts, screws and cover caps for slot C8; bracket 30x120 rated 3750 N.
Bar or cut to length
6070 mm bar or pieces cut from 50 mm upwards, with the cutting list.
Choose it if…
- You need a long, stiff cross member in the slot C8 series.
- You build gantries, machine bases or load-carrying frames.
- You want many slots on the same side for brackets, rails or panels.
- You want to stick with 30 series nuts, screws and cover caps.
Choose another solution if…
- The span is shorter and less stiffness is enough: Aluminium strut profile 30x90 →
- You need a profile that is stiff in both directions: on request
- You need a flat profile, only 15 mm high: Aluminium strut profile 15x120 →

Connections for the 30x120
For the most heavily loaded joints we'll tell you the number of brackets and nuts for each connection.
The LeanProducts service
From the bill of materials to ready-to-assemble parts, with a single point of contact:
Cutting to length
We cut the profiles in our workshop to the lengths in your parts list.
Check of codes and quantities
We start from the bill of materials or a sketch: we check profiles, brackets, nuts and cover caps for every joint.
Ready-to-assemble kits
You receive cut profiles and accessories grouped by structure, with the component list.
Spare parts
When you modify or extend the structure we supply the same original components.
Send us the bill of materials or a photo of the workstation: we'll reply with codes and quantities.

Upright, with the 120 mm side vertical: that way it works with Ix = 136.3 cm⁴. Laid flat it drops to Iy = 9.6 cm⁴, so as a cross member loaded from above it performs much worse. Use it flat only if you need a wide band with four slots.
Only if you mount it on edge, with the 120 mm vertical: that way it works with Ix = 110.4 cm⁴. Laid flat it has Iy = 2.2 cm⁴ and bends easily: for a shelf loaded over a free span choose the 30x120.
When the cross member is long or loaded: the 30x90 weighs 2.1 kg/m versus 1.5 kg/m, but mounted upright it has Ix = 60.7 cm⁴ versus 19.6 cm⁴. For even longer spans, move up to the 30x120.
The bracket 30x120 for slot C8: it handles 3750 N and 100 Nm, with M6 screws tightened to 10 Nm. On this product page it is the bracket only: you also need the screws and nuts for slot C8, which we'll specify in the bill of materials. It is closed with the cover cap for bracket 30x120.
There is no single cover cap: use four 30x30 cover caps or two 30x60 cover caps, signal grey or ESD black. There is also the 30x30 cover cap with hole, if a screw passes through the end.
The 30x90 weighs 2.1 kg/m, has eight slots and Ix = 60.7 cm⁴. The 30x120 weighs 2.7 kg/m, has ten slots and Ix = 136.3 cm⁴: more than double the stiffness for little extra weight. Choose the 30x120 for longer spans or higher loads.
Those for slot C8: T-nut M4 to M6, up to 4000 N, or sliding block M4 to M8, up to 6000 N. For cantilevered brackets or supports use the M6 T-bolt.
It is the width of the profile slot and determines which accessories you use. Slot C6 (6 mm) is for 20 series profiles, C8 (8 mm) for the 30 series, C10 (10 mm) for profiles from the 40 series upwards. Nuts, screws, brackets and cover caps are chosen by slot: each accessory's product page shows the right one.
Yes. You can order the full bar or the piece cut to the length you need: we do the cutting ourselves, in our workshop. Each profile's product page shows the maximum bar length and the minimum cut length.
Look at the moments of inertia Ix and Iy: the higher they are, the less the profile deflects under load. For the same section, “L” profiles are lightened and deflect a little more. For long spans or high loads move to a larger section or a tall profile (e.g. 45x90 instead of 45x45). If you send us drawing and loads, we will check the choice.
The T-nut is inserted from the front into the slot, even in an assembled structure, and positions itself when you tighten the screw: it is the standard choice for fixing accessories. The sliding block withstands higher forces, but normally has to be inserted from the profile end before closing the frame; spring versions stay where you put them.
The simplest way is the bracket, which joins two profiles at 90° with screws and nuts in the slot, without machining. For end, T, 45° or three-way connections there are dedicated connectors, some of which require profile machining as stated on their product page.
Yes, for several accessories (for example cover caps, hinges and nuts) there are conductive ESD versions, indicated in the name or variant. Tell us which EPA area you work in and we will confirm the components to use.
On each product page you will find the MGE catalogue pages to download as PDF, with dimensioned drawings and technical data; the Specifications tab shows the data for the variant you have chosen.
Yes. Send us the parts list or a sketch with dimensions: we give you codes, quantities and cut lengths and prepare the kit with profiles already cut and the accessories.
