Green Frame · GF-N Ø 28 profiles
GF-N profile: Ø 28 mm aluminium pipe for modular lean structures
The Ø 28 mm anodised aluminium pipe on which almost the entire Green Frame system is built: workstations, flow racks, trolleys and line-side supermarkets. You order it as a 4000 mm bar or cut to length and join it with GF-N connectors, without welding. It weighs 0.37 kg/m and over a 1000 mm span it supports 195 N at the centre with a deflection of 5 mm.
Why choose it
The basis of the whole system
It accepts the entire range of GF-N connectors: flush inner, outer, corner, 45°, hinged, rotating and sliding.
Light and as rigid as needed
0.37 kg/m: structures that are easy to move and modify, with the right rigidity for uprights and cross members of workstations and racks.
Cut to your dimensions
You receive it as a bar or already cut in our workshop, ready to assemble.
Reusable
When the process changes, loosen the connectors, move or shorten the pipe and reassemble it elsewhere.
Choose it if…
- You build uprights, cross members and frames for workstations, racks, trolleys and guards.
- You want to use the entire range of GF-N connectors, including the flush inner ones.
- The cross members are short or lightly loaded: over a 1000 mm span it supports 195 N at the centre with 5 mm deflection.
- You want a light structure that is easy to modify over time.
Choose another solution if…
- You have long or heavily loaded cross members: the double pipe fitted upright is about 10 times stiffer: GF-N W profile →
- You need to fix plate castors, panels or accessories with T-nuts: GF-N profile with C10 slot →
- You need a structure for high loads or large spans: GF-G profile →

Most used connectors and end caps
Outer 90° connector
Wraps around the pipe: the most used joint for uprights and cross members.
View product →Outer and inner 90° connectors hold 800 N against slipping along the pipe: we calculate the joints on the design.
How you use it in the structure
Three practical rules for the standard pipe:
The span matters
The load depends on the distance between the uprights: over 500 mm the pipe supports 779 N at the centre, about four times that over 1000 mm, for the same deflection.
Cross member = overall dimension − 88 mm
Between two GF-N uprights with 90° connectors the pipe length is the overall dimension minus 44 mm per side.
Reinforce where needed
Where the cross member is long or loaded, move to the GF-N W, the T or the Hard, or add a 45° brace.
Cantilever brackets and arms without a brace support little: the standard connector allows 9–11 N·m at the root of the arm.
The LeanProducts service
From drawing to finished structure, with a single point of contact:
Design and load calculation
We start from your sketch or dimensions: we choose profiles and connectors and check spans, joints and loads.
Cut to length
We cut the profiles in our workshop to the lengths in the design, ready to assemble.
Kit or assembled structure
You receive the kit with the cut parts and the list of components, or the structure already assembled.
Spare parts and modifications
When the process changes we supply components and new cuts to modify or extend the structure.
Send us a sketch, a photo or the overall dimensions: we will reply with codes, quantities and cut lengths.

Loads concentrated at the centre of a pipe fixed at both ends with connectors, span measured between the uprights: in a structure, joints and supports also count, and we carry out the full check on the design.

It depends on the span between the uprights. With the load concentrated at the centre and a deflection of 5 mm per metre, over 1000 mm it holds 195 N (about 20 kg), over 500 mm 779 N (about 79 kg). On a shelf the load is shared between several cross members: we calculate the capacity of the structure on your design.
The outer ones wrap around the pipe and are the most versatile; the inner ones stay flush and give a cleaner structure, with nothing protruding. On the GF-N both hold 800 N against slipping and 420 N against pull-out. For cross members that hang, the outer one with the locking screw in the notch is best: pull-out resistance rises to 1500 N.
Only for light loads. The standard connector allows 9–11 N·m at the root of the arm: a 300 mm arm carries about 3 kg at the tip. For higher loads add a 45° brace or a reinforcement under the joint, or use GF-G uprights.
You have four options: shorten the span with an intermediate upright or support; switch to the GF-N W fitted upright, about 10 times stiffer; use the T (about 1.5 times) or the Hard (about 1.7 times), which have the same diameter; or move to the GF-G Ø 43 series.
With 90° connectors on GF-N uprights the pipe length is the overall dimension minus 88 mm, i.e. 44 mm per side. With outer corner connectors you subtract 30.5 mm per side. If you send us the overall dimensions, we will prepare the cutting list.
Insert an M8 or M12 threaded insert into the end of the pipe and screw the levelling foot or stem castor into it: the M12 insert holds 1250 N in compression. Plate castors, on the other hand, are fixed on two side-by-side profiles with C10 slot.
The standard GF-N profile is suitable for most uprights and cross members. If a cross member is long or loaded use the GF-N W fitted upright (about 10 times stiffer), or the T (about 1.5 times) or the Hard (about 1.7 times, also for joints that take impacts), which have the same diameter. To fix plate castors, panels or rollers with T-nuts choose the profile with C10 slot; F35 and F50 have a flat flange for labels, small parts holders and supports. The sliding profile has a smooth surface for sliding parts and boxes, the round roller profile becomes a roller with the pin connectors, LS and LS with S slot carry a linear slide and the linear guide profile is the track for the linear rollers.
The GF-N Ø 28 is the standard for workstations, flow racks and trolleys. The GF-S Ø 19 weighs about half as much (0.20 kg/m versus 0.37) and is for light frames, dividers, guards and small mechanisms. The GF-G Ø 43 is for uprights and cross members that have to carry a lot: over a 1000 mm span it supports 851 N at the centre versus 195 N for the GF-N, for the same deflection. It is often worth mixing them, for example GF-G uprights and GF-N cross members joined by mixed connectors.
Yes. Green Frame profiles can be ordered as 4000 mm bars or cut to the length you need: we do the cutting ourselves, in our workshop. Give us the dimensions of the pieces or send us a sketch of the structure and we will prepare the cutting list.
Yes. The standard series is GF-N (Ø 28 mm pipe); GF-S (Ø 19 mm) is lighter and more compact, GF-G (Ø 43 mm) is for stiffer structures. There are mixed connectors that join pipes from different series, for example a Ø 19 or Ø 43 pipe to a Ø 28 pipe, so you use the right diameter at every point of the structure.
No. The connectors are fixed to the pipe with hex socket screws: a hex key is all you need. Loosen the screw, insert the pipe, bring it into position and tighten. No welding, drilling or painting.
Yes, it is the strength of the pipe system: loosen the connectors, move or replace the pipes and retighten. You can raise a shelf, extend a workbench or reuse the components in another structure when the process changes, with continuous improvement in mind.
Yes. We can design the structure (workstation, flow rack, trolley, line-side supermarket) with the load calculation and deliver it to you assembled or as a kit with the parts already cut and the list of components.
No. Profiles and connectors are in anodised aluminium: the surface resists corrosion and wear without painting and is easy to clean.
Yes. The range includes conductive components such as ESD inner end caps, ESD clips for electrical continuity between pipe and connector, and ESD inserts for levelling feet and castors. Tell us which EPA area you work in and we will tell you the components to use.
