Aluminium strut profile 45x45L – lightened profile with slot 10, 45 series

The 45x45L is the light version of the 45x45 profile: same section, same four 10 mm slots and same accessories, but 1.6 kg/m instead of 2.0. The optimised section keeps good rigidity with less material: it is the typical choice for benches, workstations, safety fences and frames that do not carry heavy loads.

How to use it in the structure

Three practical tips for the 45x45L:

Span and deflection

Over a 1000 mm span, supports at the ends and 500 N at the centre, the theoretical deflection is about 1.3 mm.

Central bore

It can be threaded M12 (minimum 60 mm on one end, 110 mm on both) or takes the S12x30-T50 self-tapping screw.

Fence posts

It serves as a post with a 45x45 foot fixed with M8 T-bolts, or with a 120x120 base plate and central bolt.

For high loads or frequent impacts consider the solid 45x45: same accessories, heavy slot.

The 45x45 weighs 2.0 kg/m, has Ix = Iy = 13.8 cm⁴ and heavy-geometry slots, for highly loaded connections. The 45x45L weighs 1.6 kg/m and has 11.7 cm⁴: it uses less material and suits benches, guards and frames with normal loads. Footprint, slots, brackets and cover caps are the same.

The 45x45L weighs 1.6 kg/m and has Ix = Iy = 11.7 cm⁴; the solid 45x45 weighs 2.0 kg/m, has 13.8 cm⁴ and the heavy-geometry slot for highly loaded connections. Footprint, slots and accessories are the same: you can use them together in the same structure.

The 40x40L weighs 1.5 kg/m and has Ix 9.1 cm⁴; the 45x45L weighs 1.6 kg/m and has 11.7 cm⁴. Both have a 10 mm slot, but brackets, cover caps and connectors are taken in the series size, 40x40 or 45x45: choose one series and use it throughout the structure.

Same footprint, but different section: the 45x45 HR weighs 1.8 kg/m, has Ix 11.0 / Iy 10.7 cm⁴ and It 7.60 cm⁴; the 45x45L weighs 1.6 kg/m, has 11.7 cm⁴ and It 1.46 cm⁴. If you do not need its particular shape, the 45x45L is the standard choice.

Yes, it joins two 45x45 or 45x45L profiles. For larger sizes, such as 45x90 or 90x90L, the seal between the ends is made with the dedicated seal for longitudinal end connectors.

The 45x45L has a slot on each side and sharp corners: Ix = Iy = 11.7 cm⁴ and 1.6 kg/m. The 45x45L R has two slots and a rounded outer corner: it is less stiff in bending (8.6 cm⁴) but resists torsion better (It 3.3 versus 1.46 cm⁴).

In fence posts the 120x120 base plate is fixed with the S12x30-T50 self-tapping central bolt in the central bore, the 45x45 foot with two M8 T-bolts and M8 flange nuts. Alternatively have the central bore threaded M12.

Yes: the 45x45L 2NVS has two open slots and two smooth sides, easier to clean. It has the same section and uses the same cover cap.

The cover cap for profile 45x45 in polypropylene, grey or black ESD: it is the same as for the solid 45x45.

It is the width of the profile slot and determines which accessories you use. Slot C6 (6 mm) is for 20 series profiles, C8 (8 mm) for the 30 series, C10 (10 mm) for profiles from the 40 series upwards. Nuts, screws, brackets and cover caps are chosen by slot: each accessory's product page shows the right one.

Yes. You can order the full bar or the piece cut to the length you need: we do the cutting ourselves, in our workshop. Each profile's product page shows the maximum bar length and the minimum cut length.

Look at the moments of inertia Ix and Iy: the higher they are, the less the profile deflects under load. For the same section, “L” profiles are lightened and deflect a little more. For long spans or high loads move to a larger section or a tall profile (e.g. 45x90 instead of 45x45). If you send us drawing and loads, we will check the choice.

The T-nut is inserted from the front into the slot, even in an assembled structure, and positions itself when you tighten the screw: it is the standard choice for fixing accessories. The sliding block withstands higher forces, but normally has to be inserted from the profile end before closing the frame; spring versions stay where you put them.

The simplest way is the bracket, which joins two profiles at 90° with screws and nuts in the slot, without machining. For end, T, 45° or three-way connections there are dedicated connectors, some of which require profile machining as stated on their product page.
