Aluminium strut profile 45x45 – slotted profile with slot 10 for frames and benches
The 45x45 is the solid profile of the 45 series in the Bosch Rexroth modular aluminium system: one 10 mm slot on each side, with the “heavy” geometry designed for highly loaded connections, including dynamic loads. At 2.0 kg/m and Ix = Iy = 13.8 cm⁴ it is stiffer than the lightened 45x45L: use it for uprights and crossbars of support frames, workbenches, trolleys and guards. Order it as a 6070 mm bar or cut to length.
Why choose it
Sturdy slot
The heavy slot geometry supports high-strength connections, even under dynamic loads.
Four usable sides
One 10 mm slot on each side: fix brackets, panels and accessories where needed, without drilling.
Machinable central bore
At the end you can have an M12 or M16 thread for levelling feet, central bolts and end connectors.
Bar or cut to size
6070 mm bar of usable length or pieces cut to your dimensions, from 50 mm upwards.
Choose it if…
- You build machine frames, benches or trolleys that carry high or dynamic loads.
- You work in the 45 series and want the full range of brackets, connectors and accessories.
- You need a central bore that can be threaded M12 or M16 for feet and central bolts.
- For the same footprint you prefer the solid profile to the lightened one.
Choose another solution if…
- The structure carries normal loads and you want less weight, 1.6 kg/m instead of 2.0: Aluminium strut profile 45x45L →
- You have long or loaded crossbars: the 45x90 mounted upright has Ix 124.6 cm⁴: Aluminium strut profile 45x90 →
- You want a more compact profile, in the 40 series: Aluminium strut profile 40x40L →

How to use it in the structure
Three practical rules for the 45x45:
The span matters
Deflection grows with the cube of the span: if you double the distance between supports, the crossbar deflects eight times more.
End machining
M12 thread: minimum length 60 mm on one end and 110 mm on both; with M16 on one end 120 mm is required.
Move to a tall section
For long crossbars the 45x90 mounted upright has an Ix nine times higher, with the same width.
The rigidity of the structure also depends on joints and supports: we carry out the verification on your drawing.

The 45x45 weighs 2.0 kg/m, has Ix = Iy = 13.8 cm⁴ and heavy-geometry slots, for highly loaded connections. The 45x45L weighs 1.6 kg/m and has 11.7 cm⁴: it uses less material and suits benches, guards and frames with normal loads. Footprint, slots, brackets and cover caps are the same.
The 45x45L weighs 1.6 kg/m and has Ix = Iy = 11.7 cm⁴; the solid 45x45 weighs 2.0 kg/m, has 13.8 cm⁴ and the heavy-geometry slot for highly loaded connections. Footprint, slots and accessories are the same: you can use them together in the same structure.
When the 45x45 deflects too much but the 45x90 is larger than necessary: the 45x60 has Ix 37.2 cm⁴ and weighs 3.0 kg/m, compared with 13.8 and 2.0 for the 45x45 and 124.6 and 4.2 for the 45x90.
The 50x50L has a 50 mm grid, Ix 21.2 cm⁴ and 2.5 kg/m; the 45x45 has a 45 grid, 13.8 cm⁴ and 2.0 kg/m. Brackets, connectors and cover caps are chosen by series size: do not mix 45 and 50 in the same structure without checking the connections.
The 45x45 has Ix = Iy = 13.8 cm⁴ and weighs 2.0 kg/m; the 22.5x45 has Ix = 7.1 cm⁴, Iy = 2.9 cm⁴ and weighs 1.3 kg/m. Choose the 22.5x45 for bands and slim frames, the 45x45 for posts and cross members carrying loads.
An example: 1000 mm span, crossbar supported at the ends and 500 N at the centre. The theoretical deflection is about 1.1 mm (E = 70 000 N/mm², Ix = 13.8 cm⁴). With the same span a 45x90 mounted upright drops to about 0.12 mm. In a real structure joints and constraints also matter: for verification send us the drawing and loads.
On 45x45 and 45x45L support profiles, to fix the 22.5x45 frame profile of EcoSafe fencing to them.
The central bore is threaded M12 or M16 and takes levelling feet, central bolts and end connectors. The threaded profile is ordered as standard machining with its own code: tell us the thread and which end you need it on.
The bracket 45x45, with or without screws and nuts: it fits in the slots without machining the profile. For more heavily loaded joints there are connectors that require D17 holes in the profile: tell us the load and we will suggest the connection.
The cover cap for profile 45x45 in polypropylene, grey or black ESD. It is the same as for the 45x45L and 45x45L 2NVS.
It is the width of the profile slot and determines which accessories you use. Slot C6 (6 mm) is for 20 series profiles, C8 (8 mm) for the 30 series, C10 (10 mm) for profiles from the 40 series upwards. Nuts, screws, brackets and cover caps are chosen by slot: each accessory's product page shows the right one.
Yes. You can order the full bar or the piece cut to the length you need: we do the cutting ourselves, in our workshop. Each profile's product page shows the maximum bar length and the minimum cut length.
Look at the moments of inertia Ix and Iy: the higher they are, the less the profile deflects under load. For the same section, “L” profiles are lightened and deflect a little more. For long spans or high loads move to a larger section or a tall profile (e.g. 45x90 instead of 45x45). If you send us drawing and loads, we will check the choice.
The T-nut is inserted from the front into the slot, even in an assembled structure, and positions itself when you tighten the screw: it is the standard choice for fixing accessories. The sliding block withstands higher forces, but normally has to be inserted from the profile end before closing the frame; spring versions stay where you put them.
The simplest way is the bracket, which joins two profiles at 90° with screws and nuts in the slot, without machining. For end, T, 45° or three-way connections there are dedicated connectors, some of which require profile machining as stated on their product page.
Yes, for several accessories (for example cover caps, hinges and nuts) there are conductive ESD versions, indicated in the name or variant. Tell us which EPA area you work in and we will confirm the components to use.
On each product page you will find the MGE catalogue pages to download as PDF, with dimensioned drawings and technical data; the Specifications tab shows the data for the variant you have chosen.
Yes. Send us the parts list or a sketch with dimensions: we give you codes, quantities and cut lengths and prepare the kit with profiles already cut and the accessories.
